Shincheonji Taekwondo Team Secures Medals Again, Proving Global Strength

July 25, 2025 – At the 2025 Park Chung-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition, the Shincheonji Taekwondo Team achieved an impressive record: 4 golds, 7 silvers, and 14 bronzes, with every member winning a prize.

Following their success at the Kim Un-yong Cup, this marks two consecutive competitions where the entire team claimed awards, showcasing their skill on the world stage.

The Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Chairman Man-hee Lee, hereinafter Shincheonji Church of Jesus) Taekwondo Team once again proved its excellence internationally by earning medals at the 2025 Park Chung-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition.

Hosted by the Park Chung-hee Cup Organizing Committee and co-hosted by the Gyeongbuk Taekwondo Association and Sangju City Taekwondo Association, the event drew about 4,200 athletes from 18 nations, including Korea, the U.S., and France. From July 18 to 21 at the Sangju Indoor Gymnasium, competitors engaged in diverse events such as comprehensive competition, breaking, poomsae, kicking, and sparring, with skills thoroughly evaluated.

A total of 25 Shincheonji athletes competed in the official poomsae individual contest on July 19. Despite limited preparation time, their focused training and persistence delivered dazzling performances. The team earned 4 gold, 7 silver, and 14 bronze medals, securing awards for every participant.

Notably, this competition also served to enhance Korea’s cultural and diplomatic stature. With Taekwondo’s global roots in Korea, the strong showing left a lasting impression on both domestic and international audiences.

Gold medalist Lee Jun-wi remarked, “Even with limited training, we gave our full concentration. I’m grateful our efforts led to such good results.”

National team coach Kim Deok-hoon added, “This international event featured many outstanding domestic and foreign athletes. I’m proud our team maintained composure and showcased skill. Moving forward, we’ll build a stronger training system and strategy to bring even more talent and improved performance next year.”

Earlier this month, the Shincheonji Taekwondo Team also achieved full-member victories at the 2025 Kim Un-yong Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition in Busan. All 12 participants won medals, including 2 golds, 4 silvers, and 5 bronzes, continuing their record of success at international events.

At the 2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Festival, 5 of 18 members also secured medals, further highlighting the team’s consistent domestic and international results. They have solidified their reputation as a team with skill and stable management.

Beyond faith, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus actively supports talent development and healthy community programs in sports, culture, and the arts. Through sports initiatives, they aim to promote healthy lives and meaningful social contributions into the future.
